Robbie Simpson admitted Brentford's defeat against Rochdale may have been down to the team's mentality.
The wide man scored his third goal of the campaign in the first half as The Bees came from behind to level at 1-1 against the Greater Manchester side.
But he said they started the second half poorly and ended up 3-1 down just past the hour mark, a deficit they could not recover.
"Maybe it's a mental thing," said Simpson. "There is no reason we why we shouldn't have come out and steam rolled them.
"Maybe we thought it might be easy with them having a game on Thursday [against Birmingham City in the Carling Cup].
"We thought they would tire and and maybe we thought it would be easier.
"But we are professionals and that shouldn't happen.
"It's not the result we wanted, we wanted to carry on from Tuesday['s Carling Cup win against Hull City] when we were on a high.
"We got off to a bad start and got back into the game.
"At half time we thought we would win but within ten minutes we were behind again.
"It's happened more than once and we need to sort it out as a group."
Simpson paid tribute to the efforts of Myles Weston and Gary Alexander for his goal and said he was just doing what a winger should do by getting into the area to score goals.
"I thought we kicked on after the goal," continued Simpson. "We created chances and if one had gone in maybe we would be standing here with three points but that wasn't the case.
"If we did what we did today, in terms of conceding goals, against Sheffield Wednesday next week they will embarrass us."
