Brentford manager Andy Scott set his sights on the later stages of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy (JPT) after beating Stevenage in the Southern Section First Round.
The Bees progressed to the Second Round with a 1-0 win secured by a Robbie Simpson goal just before the half hour.
Scott said he was pleased with the performance, and to win the match, and felt his side were close to being the team he wants to see.
"We want to go as far as we possibly can," said Scott."It depends on fixtures, injuries and luck of the draw.
"We don't get many home games in the JPT, a home game would be a treat.
"I said before the start of the season I wanted to progress in the cups and so far we have done that.
"This was a tough game tonight.
"We don't have a fantastic record away from home.
"To win and keep a clean sheet is a boost for us.
"I honestly believe we are close.
"We only have one league point on the board, but that isn't representative of how we have played.
"I'm disappointed with our points total but not the way we have played.
"We need to be more ruthless in both boxes, that's what I wanted to see tonight."
Scott said Gary Alexander was unavailable for the match as his partner was ill and said the performances of players he brought in had given him plenty to think about ahead of Sunday's match with Sheffield Wednesday.
"Winning the game was the most pleasing thing," added Scott. "And keeping the clean sheet was very important.
"They are a big, strong side and we dealt with them very well.
"There are a few areas we need to work on."
