Karleigh Osborne said he felt Brentford's defence was comfortable in their Johnstone's Paint Trophy win against Stevenage.
The Bees reached the Southern Section Second Round with a 1-0 victory, keeping their first clean sheet of the season in the process.
Osborne said he felt he had "stepped up to the plate" this season and was pleased to get that first clean sheet.
"We are definitely pleased," said Osborne. "We like to keep clean sheets and we have managed to do that tonight.
"In training, we work so hard on defensive stuff.
"We are so close and it's the little mistakes that have cost us.
"Teams have punished us for them.
"When individuals make errors we need to make sure we are there to help each other out.
"If someone in the back four makes a mistake I feel it.
"[Stevenage] shelled it constantly tonight but I thought we were comfortable dealing with it, we are all good headers of the ball.
"I have been more consistent so far this season.
"I feel I have stepped up to the plate and showed I have it.
"To be honest, I should have done it years ago, it's about time I did it.
"I got my chance last season and I took it.
"I worked hard in training and showed what I could do and I was fortunate my chance came."
