SCOTT HAILS WEDNESDAY WIN

Posted on: Sun 05 Sep 2010

Brentford manager Andy Scott was full of praise for his team after their 1-0 win over League One leaders Sheffield Wednesday.

The Bees clinched the points thanks to a Charlie MacDonald goal late in the first half and Scott said they could have had more.

"I was very, very pleased with the way we played," said the Bees' boss. "I struggle to think of a save [goalkeeper] Ben Hamer had to make.

"We have tested [Wednesday goalkeeper] Nicky Weaver and he had made a couple of saves, we hit the bar and had a couple off the line.

"We always looked dangerous on the break.

"Everyone defended fantastically well.

"It was a really good, deserved win.

"They didn't really hurt us in key areas.

"They are a big side but we dealt with the physical challenge.

"The pressure was on us [as we hadn't won in the league], but I was comfortable with the majority of performances.

"It was a good performance today

Scott spoke in glowing terms of all of his players - particularly Karleigh Osborne, who he described as outstanding - after the match, televised live by Sky.

He said the defender "set the tone" for his team's performance, hailed the work rate of strikers Charlie MacDonald and Gary Alexander and said Michael Spillane gave his side a little extra at right back.

"Everyone turned on their TV today to watch Sheffield Wednesday, not us," added Scott. "We wanted to be the team they were talking about afterwards.

"We are organised, we have good players and I hope people who watched the game will have seen exactly that.

"This league is going to be very tight - no-one gives you anything, you have to work for it.

"We have a squad of committed players who want to show how good they are."

Robbie Simpson also spoke to Bees Player after the match - watch an interview with the forward tomorrow.

The Bees Player team also secured an exclusive interview with Football League chairman Greg Clarke - see that on Monday.
