2008/2009 Season
One of the League's northern most clubs had to wait until the final day of the League season to ensure continuance at this level. Playing host to Play Off finalists Millwall, a seventh minute goal from veteran Graham Kavanagh soon put their minds at ease whilst a second from Paul Thirlwell sealed the victory, and indeed safety as Northampton Town were going down 3-0 at Leeds. Only Yeovil and Hereford scored less on their travels than Carlisle.

Leading Scorer

Leading scorer was 23 year old Danny Graham who scored 16 goals including an early season hat trick against Yeovil Town. That total fell just one short of the 17 he scored the previous season for The Cumbrians.
Manager

Greg Abbott was appointed Manager (having previously been Caretaker Manager) earlier last season in succession to John Ward who had led The Cumbrians to the Play Offs at the end of the 2007/08 season losing to Leeds United in the semis. This was his second spell as Caretaker Manager at Brunton Park having previously replaced Neil McDonald in 2007.
Last League Meeting
Our meetings next season will be our first since the 2006/07 season in League One. We failed to score in either match losing 0-2 just two days before Christmas in Carlisle and playing out a goalless draw at Griffin Park five weeks later. Away we attracted an attendance of 6,805 whilst at Griffin Park 5,381 were in attendance.

Previous Highlights
Our first ever meeting with Carlisle at Griffin Park was in the 1964/65 season on 19th December to be precise. The Bees had scored eleven goals in the previous four games but at the same time had conceded twelve. So leaders Carlisle United's visit promised goals but no one was too sure who would claim the lion's share. As it happened The Bees hammered six goals past them, conceding just one, with Billy Cobb scoring a hat trick. This was the return fixture from our first ever visit to Carlisle on 28th August where Joe Bonson scored the only goal of the game for us. As it transpired that double was achieved against that seasons champions and The Bees finished just three points behind them in 5th place.
Ground

Brunton Park has a capacity of almost 17,000 and was completely flooded in 2005 through adverse weather conditions.
Attendances
Their average League attendance last season was 6,267 with a high of 12,148 against Leeds United in September and a low of 4,223 against Hereford United in March.
Mileage
Carlisle, 308 miles from Brentford, will easily be the longest journey for Bees fans this season being some 46 miles further on than Hartlepool.
