2008/2009 Season
Last season was their second successive season in League One and they have been challenging hard in each. In 2007/08 they finished 6th but in the Play Offs lost to the eventual winners Doncaster Rovers in the semis. This past season they finished 8th five points off the Play Offs. Their greatest failing was the number of goals they conceded on their travels which was only worsened by three of the relegated clubs.

Previous Highlights
We have met Southend more than any other club since our first meeting in April 1921. Comparatively recent highlights were in the 1998/99 season. On Saturday 24th April 1999 at Roots Hall with The Bees pushing hard for promotion. A Lloyd Owusu hat trick and a goal from Scott Partridge gave us a 4-1 win (5,273). This completed a season's double and a special double for Owusu as he had also scored a hat trick on Tuesday 10th November in our 4-1 home victory against the same side. Darren Freeman scored the other Bees gaol in front of 4,285.
Ground
Roots Hall has been the clubs home ground since 1955. It was designed to hold 35,000 (the current capacity in the now all seater stadium is 12,392) and the record attendance was 31,090 back in 1979 when they played Liverpool in the FA Cup.
Attendances
Their average League attendance last season was 7,850 with a high of 10,241 against MK Dons in April, and a low of 6,028 against Scunthorpe United in February.
