2008/2009 Season
Last season was their fifth consecutive season in League One since gaining promotion in 2003/04 and they finished seventh, just two points behind sixth placed Scunthorpe and a Play Off place.
In their final game of the season, having taken the lead in the 39th minute, an 88th minute equaliser at Scunthorpe deprived them of the Play Offs and their victors that afternoon were subsequently promoted to the Championship.

Leading Scorer

Their leading goalscorer was Antony Kay, a midfielder, with 12 goals, one ahead of Ian Moore on 11.
Manager

Their Manager last season was the experienced Ronnie Moore but he has been replaced by the rather less experienced John Barnes. Former England international Barnes was manager for just under one season at Celtic in 1999/2000 and is now also manager of Jamaica.

Our last meeting was on the final day of the 2006/07 season at Prenton Park when we came away with a 3-1 defeat (Willock) in front of 6,529 whilst relegation had already been confirmed. Earlier in the season we had played out a 1-1 draw at Griffin Park (Ide) in front of an attendance totalling 4,878.

Previous Highlights
Tranmere were the first team we ever met in the Play Offs. It was the 1990/91 season and we had been beaten by them on each occasion in League matches that season, the final occasion being our last home game when we lost 0-2 in front of a crowd totalling 7,341.
In the first leg two weeks later Paul Evans gave us a first half lead which was overturned after the break before Kevin Godfrey sealed a draw with a late equaliser. 2,000 Bees fans made the journey for the second leg only to witness a one sided match which was won by the home side 1-0.
Ground

Prenton Park is named after the Prenton area of Birkenhead. It has four stands, The Kop, The Main Stand, The Johnny King Stand and The Cowshed which houses the away fans. The ground has a capacity of 16,787.
Attendances
Their average League attendance last season was 5,820 with a high of 8,700 against Leeds United in December, and a low of 4,535 against Cheltenham Town in October.
