Brentford bounced back from their first defeat of the season with a fully deserved 0-0 draw away against Huddersfield Town, one of the pre-season promotion favourites.

The Bees were well worth the point, Lewis Price in the visitors' goal was not overly busy, and they could have won it with late chances wasted by Cleveland Taylor and Myles Weston.

Price was busy early on, tipping over a long range Antony Kay shot, but the first half had few good chances.

Huddersfield had a lot of possession, but it was mainly in non-dangerous areas, and Brentford had the best chance of the half.

It fell to Charlie MacDonald, making his first start after more than five months out with a shoulder injury, when he latched onto a David Hunt throw that was half cleared but his connection from ten yards wasn't true and the ball was cleared.

James Wilson had an early volley saved and MacDonald had another shot blocked, as did his strike partner Steve Kabba.

Price saved a low Kay shot before the break and Peter Clarke had a header blocked when he was unmarked from a Danny Drinkwater corner in first half stoppage time.

The score sheet deserved to be blank at the break but both sides will feel they could have won it in the second half.

Theo Robinson had a weak shot saved after he turned Mark Phillips and Jordan Rhodes should have scored when he met an Anthony Pilkington cross seven yards out but he failed to punish his old team mates and headed over.

MacDonald forced Alex Smithies into a full stretch save with a cheeky lobbed effort and Price saved from Drinkwater at the other end before Kay headed wide.

Hunt deflected a curling Drinkwater effort wide before Brentford missed the opening of the afternoon.

Weston set Kabba away on the left and he wriggled his way past Lee Peltier before cutting the ball back to Taylor, but the wide man missed the target with an effort from eight yards at full stretch.

Taylor turned provider with five minutes remaining when it was his turn to skip past Peltier and although he picked out his man, Weston miss-hit his shot.

Huddersfield went straight up the other end and Gary Roberts picked out substitute Lee Novak, he managed to beat Price but not Phillips on the line.

Novak headed into the side netting in stoppage time but the hosts could not find the winner, which would have been extremely unjust on the hard-working and well-organised Brentford team.
