Whilst on my break I've been doing a variety of activities like, tennis, swimming and football. There are a few sports that I'm not as keen on, like cricket and hockey, I have tried them but there just wasn't a connection.
At my first school (Chesham Bois), football was the main sport. I remember being 7yrs old playing in the playground, trying to take on the whole team and score. I used to dive about on the concrete so much that mum warned me, if I tore a hole in my trousers one more time she'd cut them into shorts, that winter I was the only fool wearing shorts in the snow. I played for my school team age group and the year above, we won both leagues. I'm not religious but if it were ever raining, the night before a game I would pray at my window that the game wouldn't be called off. Sad I know but I must say I can't remember many being postponed. The picture below shows my Chesham Bois team with the league title. Can you spot my trendy haircut and me???

Of all the sports, football was starting to take over my life. I played for Sunday League teams, Amersham Town, Flackwell Heath and Fulmer Boys. I loved the game so much that I would play for Crystal Palace schoolboys in south London every Sunday at 10am, as soon as the final whistle blew I would jump into my mums car, head back to north London and play for my Sunday league team at 2pm. I think that if Palace had known, I would have been in big trouble but that's how much I enjoyed playing.
At my secondary school (Amersham) I would play football during first break and lunch. I would then get the bus home, throw my footy kit on and meet my mates down the park, we'd play there until you couldn't see the ball anymore. My mum would say be home by 9pm but I never listened to her, I'd keep an eye out for her coming down the alley way and then leg it through a field home before she could catch me. If she did ever catch me I'd be covered in mud and mum would make me strip off naked at the front door to embarrass me.
During the summertime I would play tennis against my mates, I never had a single lesson but picked up the techniques quickly and I hated losing against my friends. I also got a call up to the school team, trouble was the standard of playing against my friends was slightly less than playing school teams! Still I enjoyed it and learnt from them. For Athletics day, triple jump was my strong point. I was never good at long distance running, I also had a dabble at javelin. I was good at swimming, front crawl was my favourite stroke. I found table tennis addictive, I'm hoping we can get a table at our Brentford training ground. Even though I'm not a fan of playing rugby, I love watching it, this was from my dads influence, he used to play semi pro and had a spell with Wasps. I watched a few Northampton Saints games whilst playing for Northampton Town, which I really enjoyed. I started playing golf around four years ago. I spent 4 weeks playing during one summer and became addicted. I became very good but unfortunately had to stop playing as I kept getting tendonitis in my knees, which would stop me from playing football.
I'm a very competitive person, I love playing computer games and board games too. I've been known to be in a bad mood all day because I once lost my unbeaten record for Pro Evolution Soccer online on the Xbox! It's ok though, I set up a new username and started again haha.
I think that playing all these different sports has helped me to develop my all round understanding of what it takes to be good at something. I watch the best players from each sport and try to learn from all of their strengths and weaknesses, even in their interviews. If you watch Nadal being interviewed after a tennis match you will see a true great, a legend being very humble and gracious, kids should learn from these traits. Check him out below…
So as you can probably tell, I love most sports. It's been my out since I can remember, I try to watch and learn from them as much as I can. This is how my mind works, I hope it can help to develop yours too.
