STAINES TOWN 0 BRENTFORD 2
If the past two pre season friendlies in particular are a measure of what's in store for Bees fans for the season ahead, then no one will be disappointed.
Saturday's excellent performance was followed last night at Staines with another assured display by the squad put together by Andy Scott and Terry Bullivant.
In front of an attendance of 1,009 the first half saw five triallists get a run out and even given their lack of knowledge of each other it was plain to see the football and passing movement that is being encouraged by our management team.
The second half saw a few more current squad players take to the field and the flowing football was even more evident.
Simon Brown, Luke Ruddick, Miles Mitchell Coot, Craig Pead, Ian Pearce, Leigh Mills, Michael Antonio, Andre Boucard, Nathan Elder, Moses Ademola, Justin Abel started the game for The Bees.
The home team started the livelier and it was Newton who tested Brown early on only for Brentford to go close through Antonio minutes later.
After 12 minutes Elder's header flashed past the post from Ademola`s pin point centre.
In the 21st minute Smith for Staines beat two defenders to win a corner, from which his header flew inches over the bar.
On the half hour former West Ham and Fulham defender Ian Pearce ballooned over the bar from a corner.
The Bees were looking the more likely to score for all Staines good intent, but the half time whistle was blown with no goals having been scored.
The Bees made just one change at half time replacing Leigh Mills with another triallist Mark Phillips.
Brentford were now stepping up their game and in quick succession, first Antonio and then Ademola put in impressive runs and close efforts on goal.
The breakthrough came in the 57th minute when Elder sent a testing low centre in from the right which Antonio struck home as the home defence failed to clear.
Just six minutes later and Craig Pead repaid the fact that he had been made captain for the night, with an excellent strike from the edge of the area to double the lead.
Kevin O'Connor immediately came on for Pearce whilst seconds later a goal worthy shot from Cook was brilliantly turned aside by the airborne Brown.
With twenty minutes remaining Alan Connell, Gary Smith, Adam Newton and Charlie MacDonald replaced Elder, Boucard, Antonio and Ademola.
Phillips went close with a header from Gary Smith's free kick in the 73rd minute as The Bees pressurised for a third goal.
The Bees final two substitutions took place with ten minutes remaining, Seb Brown and Fraser Franks replacing Simon Brown and Ruddick.
In the final ten minutes Staines did well to keep The Bees at bay with MacDonald going close on three occasions.
But with literally the final kick of the game, Alan Connell swept home a loose ball after Pead`s shot had been parried by the keeper.
Roll on August 9th !
