MONDAY'S PRESS TALK

Posted on: Wed 14 Jul 2010

BOSS Andy Scott has backed Kevin O'Connor to break Brentford's all-time leading appearances record.

Bees stalwart O'Connor, whose testimonial game against Fulham next Wednesday marks his 10 years of loyal service, passed the 400 games mark towards the end of last season.

That took him to fourth on the all-time list, passing such great names as Alan Hawley, Alan Nelmes, Danis Salman, Gerry Cakebread, Jackie Graham and Tommy Higginson.

He now has James Bates, Peter Gelson, and the all-time record holder, Ken Coote, with 559 appearances in his sights.

And aged just 28, the versatile Irishman has plenty of years left in him to try and break the record, should he stay at Griffin Park.

Scott said: "Kevin has been terrific for this club and he thoroughly deserves a good turnout for his testimonial game. He is a model pro who all the younger players look up to, and conducts himself impeccably.

"He's still got a long way to go if he looks after himself, and there's no reason why he cannot break the record. It would be fitting if he did."

Tickets for Wednesday's game, which kicks-off at 8pm, are available on the gate, priced £12 for adults and just £5 for juniors (U18s) and seniors.
