TUESDAY'S PRESS TALK

Posted on: Sat 17 Jul 2010

BRENTFORD captain Kevin O'Connor wants to end his career in TW8.

The Bees stalwart marks his 10 years of loyal service at Griffin Park with a testimonial game against Fulham tomorrow night.

O'Connor passed the 400 games mark towards the end of last season, leaving him fourth on the all-time list, with record holder, Ken Coote, on 559 appearances, in his sights.

But he admits he's not one for keeping track of records, but usually gets a shirt from kit man Dave Carter, signed by the other players, to celebrate each landmark.

He said: "I'm not good with statistics, but I have plenty of people around me who always remember the big ones, so they never pass me by.

"I'd love to break the record, but it's not a massive aim. I just want to keep playing for Brentford as long as I can."

With Roy Hodgson having gone to Liverpool, it would be fitting if Ray Lewington is in charge of the team Fulham send down tomorrow.

Lewington was a coach at the club when O'Connor made his Brentford debut way back in 1999, and handed the then fledgling striker a series of starts when he took over as manager.

O'Connor said: "Although it was Ron Noades who gave me my debut, Ray was a big influence on my early career, and it would be great to see him again."

The 28-year-old also revealed he rates Michael Turner as the most talented Bee he has played alongside in his 10 years at the club, followed by Jay Tabb, John Salako and Deon Burton.

Tickets for Wednesday's game, which kicks-off at 8pm, are available on the gate, priced £12 for adults and just £5 for juniors (U18s) and seniors.
