THURSDAY'S PRESS TALK

Posted on: Thu 29 Jul 2010

Boss Andy Scott is confident goals will start flowing for Brentford by the time they kick-off their League One campaign at Carlisle United.

The Bees chief is still hunting re-enforcements to join Carl Cort, Nicky Forster and Charlie MacDonald up top, having admitted he would like four or five specialist goalscorers at the club.

Scott, who has Myles Weston and Kirk Hudson as utility frontmen, has so far been concentrating on getting his back-four functioning properly with four new faces to integrate into the back five.

It has meant a lack of goals in games with Fulham, Tonbridge Angels and Wycombe Wanderers, although the side have increasingly created more chances.

And the Griffin Park manager is confident goals will come.

"We have been doing a lot of defensive work, because you can only go forward if you are solid at the back," he said.

"We are a bit short up front in terms of personnel and that is an area we are still looking at.

"I'd like to have four or five strikers for the coming season, but I'm not prepared to go and get someone for the sake of it.

"Ideally you want people in before the start of the season to work with them, but it is a waiting game.

"Sometimes players become available a month into the season when they realise they are not playing as much as they'd like.

"I wouldn't want to miss out on a target because I've signed someone else already."

New faces aside, Scott expects to name a strong side for next week's friendly with Crystal Palace that will be close to the one that takes the field at Brunton Park on August 7.

"The team has got to play together for 90 minutes at some stage and the game with Palace will be a good opportunity," he added.
